As the header says, this is a personal post dealing with my life. This is a personal blog about video games, so I can talk about myself here and there, right? I won’t make it too much of a habit.
I’m a full-time college student, and I’ll be starting my classes Tuesday, the 21st.
I started this blog last year during school, so it’s my goal to continue Game Over You Suck while I attend school and hold down a job.
I started this blog because I want to be a video game journalist. It’s why I attend school in the first place. I didn’t expect many viewers at all. I am an amateur, and new to the blogging scene.
On August 19th, something amazing happened to me. WordPress featured me on the Freshly Pressed page, skyrocketing my views. It’s a great feeling, hearing complete strangers say they like your opinion or thoughts.
This post is a reminder to me what happened today. The first of what I hope is many more to come. And even though life is going to get chaotic very quickly, I can still look back to today with fondness.
Thank you, all my new followers. I’m humbled, and deeply thankful to WordPress. As cheesy, and cliché as it sounds, today I felt very special, and unique. I hope this feeling never goes away.
I was Freshly Pressed today as well… amazing day, no? Congratulations again. As a gamer and blogger, I look forward to following your blog!
Congrats! I’m just digging through a bunch of your posts now; you’ve done a great job, definitely worth the press…
Honestly, thank you. I’m still new to both wordpress and blogging in general, but hopefully I can continue to provide great articles for the future.
Congratulations, your freshly pressed post got me here and reading more of your blog. Would love to be in your shoes! 😛
I’m estatic. Thank you for checking out the post and then the rest of the blog!
I stumbled across your blog because of the Freshly-Pressed plug too, and well it was a very good article! I used to be a videogame journalist, and I can tell you that it can be a very fulfilling job if you absolutely love games and the gaming industry (two very different things!).
Well thought-out articles like your Video Game Deaths post will definitely get you noticed, but I’m going to be a nitpicker here and point out that I’ve spotted a couple of typos in this post (“amature” and “skyrockting”). You’ll need to get into a habit of proofreading your work to make sure that typos like these don’t pop up in your future posts. An article with a good voice like the Freshly-Pressed post might still tip your stock value in your favor, but why run the risk with the typos, right?
I wrote a post about writing magazine articles before (http://drewpan.wordpress.com/2012/07/27/tips-for-writing-magazine-articles/) and you might find it a little bit helpful – though it’s not specifically about gaming articles. Otherwise feel free to drop by and hit me with some questions if you’ve got any.
Good luck with your quest!
Thanks! I will likely come to you with questions at some point. And I will definately check out your article. This is, after all, a career I want to have. It’s why I go to college after all.
I’ll keep in mind your advice. I’m spoiled by auto correct software of google, firefox, and word. This is a problem because I wrote this article on my phone. I will in the future, take more time to proofread.
Thank you for the constructive critism. I honestly feel I don’t get enough of it.
Yeah just take the habit of at least giving each post a once-over before clicking the post button. Same with giving every article or release or any writing a once-over, and not emailing it out the moment you complete it.
Fresh eyes help a lot!
